Micron Technology's landmark semiconductor facility in Sanand, Gujarat is transitioning from pilot production to full commercial operations by late February 2026. The $2.75 billion assembly, testing, marking and packaging (ATMP) unit spans nearly 50 acres and will become one of the largest back-end semiconductor facilities globally. IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed at the World Economic Forum in Davos that pilot production has commenced at four semiconductor plants, with Micron leading the transition to commercial operations. The facility will produce memory modules, solid-state drives and packaged chips with capacity of approximately 14 million units per week upon full ramp-up. India's semiconductor roadmap targets progression from 28-nanometer to 7-nanometer by 2030, and eventually to 3-nanometer and 2-nanometer nodes by 2032. The government has approved 10 semiconductor projects with total investments of ₹1.6 lakh crore, including two fabs and eight packaging units. This milestone positions India as a strategic player in global semiconductor supply chains and aligns with the India Semiconductor Mission objectives to build domestic manufacturing capabilities.
